STEEL CUT NAILS

190 YEARS OF
EXCELLENCE
Tremont Nail

The original Tremont Nail building was constructed by shipwrights in the early 1800's as a cotton mill. It was partially burned by the British in the War of 1812, then rebuilt and purchased by Isaac and Jared Pratt in 1819 to manufacture nails. The mill was partially destroyed by fire again in 1836. Reconstruction was completed in 1848 and the mill stands today as it did then, without any significant changes over the past 150 years. There are 60 nail machines in the mill, many over 125 years old, still cutting nails today the same way they did a century and one-half ago. The main mill is one of five buildings on the site over 100 years old.

Tremont Nail

As America's oldest nail manufacturer, Tremont Nail is in a position to offer the older patterns of cut nails appropriate to the period of restoration being undertaken. In addition to a variety of styles of nails, Tremont Nail can provide information to help the restorer in determining the authenticity of a project. Cut nails possess great durability. They are hard to pull out because the shape causes the wood fibers to push downward and wedge against the nails, thus greatly stengthening their holding power. Once you have used them, you will prefer them for all sorts of applications. For 200 years, Tremont Nail has achieved a reputation for skilled nail cutting that has made its product readily saleable throughout the markets of the world. Through all the changes and the hurried pace of modern industry the same product is still being produced for customers who prefer the superior holding power and durability of this time-tested nail.
